OAK 9
SUMMARY
When designing the interior of a home for a wealthy client you should not be more Catholic than the Pope; especially if your client does not profess this religion. So, if you are asked for a Feng Shui approach, you shall nod and raise your head to the sky, to discover personal and flying stars, numbers –from 1 to 9, and associated elements –water, earth, wood, steel or fire. You shall analyse the combination to bring your design to a success: if stairs in the center of the house (1, 6) are in dark wood (earth), then small water black details will be needed; if dining room (7, 9) is a heaven-fire combination, then earth between them is required in the shape of a solid wooden table…
But if you get to the kitchen with a poor combination (5, 2), which brings weakness and illness, it is better to forget everything and rely in the Emperor power of steel and its delicate golden details: a brass profile will then define a line around the house, organizing walnut wooden panels, door and drawer handles, and towel rails in the bathrooms.
As the old eastern philosophy declares, everything is an absolute unity in this house and, at the same time, mutable. Everything changes, except the good taste of the owner, who requires every corner to be rethought with thorough precision, from the toilets looking north to the Taoist brass door handle.
And when the furniture comes in, a careful selection of pieces from national and international brands combines design classics with other recently published. Soft shapes, smooth finishes… everything returns to the absolute unity of a house, avoiding dissonant elements and colours, as befits a Feng Shui flavour home.
