CASA QUILES

AC magazine, the GATEPAC Catalan Modern Movement media published in 1932 a proposal for a Rest and Holiday City in Castelldefels. A utopic and naturalist proposal for the leisure and repose of the working class. A temporary removable refuge in the artificial pinewood, careful disposed as cabagnon drafts. The existence minimum thought in bathing suit.

Some years later, the raw suburban reality, derived in folkloric variety of situations. The artificial original pinewood was sliced in small plots, where flourish a kind of vernacular fantasy.

The new built is settled in between “both and”. A strict modernity derived piece, based on stereotomy on its conception and minimal on its construction. It is conceived as a concrete block module based volume, rhythmically drilled by a standard and systematic fenestration. Just a small iron tribune, as a balcony, and a construction net, anxious of being conquered by the ivy naturalize the abstract volume.

Its interior, divided in two levels, afford the minimum existence, the minimum inhabiting. Its strict distribution in equal unities derives in a unforeseeable flexibility.

On its front façade, in a wall, a double high frame changes the scale of the main access, as learning from Lewitton. On its common conventional materiality the new entrance is signified as in a full of life mausoleum.

On the court façade is opened the biggest investment of the design, with a triple sliding door, facing the parody rest of the pinewood. This big opening recovers the in and out myth, the wild proletarian shed barefooted in the forest.

And “the rest is kept green”. Well, as much as possible.
