Located within Barcelona’s Eixample district, Jardins de Montserrat Roig introduces a renewed approach to children’s play, transforming an existing 350 m² playground into a more inclusive, accessible and engaging public space. The intervention seeks to encourage interaction, movement and discovery, creating an environment where children of different ages and abilities can share experiences through play.
The design reorganizes the playground into complementary areas, combining dynamic activities with quieter spaces for exploration and interaction. A sequence of curved structures and colourful play elements creates a distinctive landscape defined by geometry, rhythm and movement. The arrangement of the different areas encourages children to explore the space in multiple ways, while accessible pathways and continuous surfaces promote freedom of movement and shared activities.
Colour, geometry and materiality shape the identity of the new playground, introducing a contemporary intervention within the existing residential surroundings. Beyond the renovation of a children’s play area, Jardins de Montserrat Roig reinforces the role of public space as a place for everyday encounters, social inclusion and community life, where architecture becomes an invitation to play, interact and discover.
